Meredith's Message - May
As we approach the end of the school year, it is an incredible time to reflect on the giant steps our youngest learners in the Infant & Toddler Program have taken over the past ten months. Our Infant & Toddler program offers the earliest interventions, therapies and educational opportunities for children ages Birth to 36 months with special health care needs in an inclusive environment. I’ll take this moment to share one child’s journey with you. In August, "Louise," a two-year-old child, was unable to walk. She was not able to communicate verbally or make eye contact with her teacher and friends.Through concentrated physical, occupational, and speech therapies, "Louise" is now walking independently with a gait trainer around her classroom and the playground. She has a smile that brightens the room, always greets you with a fist bump, and loves to sing in English and Spanish. "Louise’s" favorite song is The Wheels on the Bus. Her best friend is a typically developing child in her class. They love to play together, even if they sometimes argue over toys. "Louise’s" mom is participating in our Stepping Stones Parenting Seminars – learning positive parenting strategies to create a safe and nurturing home environment. The journey we see children like Louise take each school year is what makes CFEC such a special place. Our staff – in partnership with our board, donors, and volunteers – are changing the lives of children with special needs and their families.
